Orientation: |
| What
is the difference between a CD-ROM and a CD-R ? ---------------------- |
The CD-R
is a "recordable" CD. You can record data or files from
your computer onto a "blank" CD-R. This provides a perfect
solution to recording unique presentations, customer files or customized
information on each individual disc.
The CD-ROM
does not allow this capability since the data or files are copied
into the disc as it is being manufactured. The CD-ROM is best used
when you want the same data or presentation on every disc.

| Cost
Considerations: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
In general the
CD-ROM is less
expensive than the CD-R
when you are ordering more than 300 units at a time. The CD-ROM price
includes the data replication into the disc. Most of the time CD-R's
are ordered "blank," however for an additional fee, data
can also be copied onto CD-Rs if needed.

Time: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
CD
ROMs
are manufactured in 10 days. They are
literally custom manufactured from raw plastic. They also use another
custom element call a "glass master." It is a copy of your
data master that has been digitally etched into a piece of glass that
is used to replicate your data over and over again.
CD-R's
can be delivered imprinted and "burned" in
5 days (or less in some circumstances.) CD-R blanks are available
"off the shelf" and are ready to be imprinted. If loading
the data is required, it is duplicated by means of computerized
CD/DVD burners.
