Why
Use Medical Grade Media? Through the standardization efforts in place through NEMA, ACR, ACC and the DICOM committee, the CD-R has emerged as the standard in exchange media. Because of this standardization, it is very important to understand that all CD-R (DVD-R) media is not the same and that the medical use of CD-R requires special consideration when choosing a manufacturer. Medical Media Supply uses specially created media from SDL (Same Day Labs) that is designed to safeguard the integrity of medical images in mission critical applications. These discs have been through rigorous stress tests to prove their structural integrity for use in the medical environment. In addition to meeting Federal regulations, SDL goes beyond these specifications by adding a UV filter for sunlight protection and pregrooving the substrate for a wider error reduction in readers and writers. This substrate is of the highest purity and quality available because a slight contamination in the recordable media substrate may result in an uncorrectable error after the disc has aged only a short time. Because injection molding, stamper quality and over-coating are all very critical to the substrate performance, SDL has developed a proprietary stamper and substrate for its medical grade media. These factors are critical in the recording process, especially for higher speed writers. The limits of other media brands and manufacturing techniques may not be evident during the recording process. Their shortcomings become more apparent over the course of their lifetime and their ability to be read (or not read) in a wide variety of CD readers. SDL media uses a silver reflective layer to resist corrosion and insure stability. Corrosion can increase error rate and cause the disc to become unreadable. Another aspect of compatibility is the dye material used. The dye coating must be free from defects and controlled to tight tolerances in order to have an error free performance. Our Archive Grade Media uses a specific dye formula to insure a 100-year life expectancy. This dye has been formulated to work with the most commonly used CD writers and readers in the medical industry. Also as CD-ROM readers age and their lasers lose their efficiency, the SDL medical substrate and special dye provide the required integrity to operate successfully under compromised conditions. In
short, you can be confident that your media not only looks professional
with our custom manufacturing and imprint capabilities, but also operates
with the highest standards of reliability and longevity available anywhere
in the medical community. |
